Focsani Mausoleum
The Mausoleum of the Romanian heroes of the World War First is located on No. 9 bis Bucharest Boulevard, in the southern part of Focsani city. Its construction began in 1926 from public initiative, with the support of The Graves of War Heroes Society, Putna branch and of local officials. The design and the construction of the mausoleum were entrusted to architect State Baloșin. Works began in 1927 and were finalized during 1931. On Focsani Mausoleum were buried in an ossuary 1904 heroes and in individual graves – niches – 418 heroes. After the revolution, the mausoleum was, until 2009, the parish of inhabitants living in South district. Focsani Mausoleum is Historic Monument, LMI Code: VN-IV-mB-06592.
Marasesti Mausoleum
Marasesti Mausoleum is located at kilometer 201.6 on the national road that connects the city of Focsani to Adjud, on the place where, in summer 1917, the glorious battle of Marasesti took place. The mausoleum is the most impressive in the country and among the most majestic of Europe. Designed by architects George Cristinel and Constantin Pomponiu between 1923-1938, the mausoleum was inaugurated on September 18, 1938. The ground floor crypts house the remains of 6,000 Romanian soldiers and officers, the sarcophagus in the center is General’s Eremia Grigorescu. Soveja Mausoleum
The mausoleum is located in Soveja, Dragosloveni village, on the outskirts, on the left bank of Dragomirna river. The monument is dedicated to the memory of Romanian, Russians and Germans heroes who died during World War First in the battles that took place during the summer of 1917. The mausoleum was built between 1923-1928, from the initiative of the War Widows Society, with the support of the “Heroes Cult” Society. " It was inaugurated in 1929. In the mausoleum there are buried 2140 Romanian, Russian, German, Austrian and Hungarian heroes. The ossuary forms a cuboid in its center giving it an impressive appearance. We invite you to visit the mausoleums of Vrancea raised in memory of heroes that fallen during the battles that took place in World War First. At the junction of DN 2 with DN 2 L – road to Soveja – Victory Monument is located. On DN 2L, another touristic attraction may be considered the cemetery of German soldiers. Visitors can stop at the exit from the village Straoane, and see the Monument Ecaterina Teodoroiu. On the marble plaque it is written “In these places fell heroically in the battles for the homeland defense on 22 August 1917, the lieutenant Ecaterina Teodoroiu.”
